The Department of Blood transfusion and Immunohematology was established in Feb 2000 and since then Department is providing services 24X7.The Department is providing care in the field of Blood transfusion, serology (HIV,HBsAg,HcV and VDRL) and screening of these diseases.

Routine screening is also done to patients if prescribed.

Interns are posted in the department for a period of 10 days and every intern is given a assignment which he presents in the Department of Pathology  under the guidance of Prof Abdul Rashid Rather and this gives a opportunity to interns to project there assignment to galaxy of consultants and faculty members

Nursing students and DMLT students are sent from various polytechinic and nursing colleges are being regularly posted in our department where they go training as well as teaching.

The department of physiology is a major independent department of our college which imparts training to undergraduate students focusing on the interaction of physiology with other disciplines like Anatomy (Structure adapted to function), Biochemistry (Physiological norms versus biochemical estimations) and Medicine (diseases and their physiological derangements).

The Department strives to cover theoretical as well as practical aspects of physiology as per MCI recommendations. For this purpose the department has introduced an elaborate academic calendar which ensures complete coverage of theoretical as well as practical aspects of the subject and a balanced participation of all categories of the staff in their allocated areas of training.

For assessment of students a series of written and oral tests are held periodically over the entire academic year.

For record keeping of student’s performance, the department maintains students quiz books on individual basis which provide information on the achievements of students in written and oral tests as well as their attendance in theory and classes.

To improve the quality of training of the subject in the practical aspect of physiology, the department has procured a series of equipments including:

•Portable computerized spirometer

•Binocular research microscope

•Centrifuge Machine, and

•Student Physiographic

Simultaneously hematology lab has been renovated and steps are also being taken for updating human lab. A comprehensive record book has been introduced for recording observation of students during practical exercises.

Now that the admission strength of the students has been raised to 100 from this year, the department has demanded additional facilities in terms of manpower, equipment and space. It is hoped that it shall receive priority attention of the administration as expected.

Department of Microbiology is rendering services to the patients for last one decade which includes Bacteriology, Mycobacteriology, Parasitology, Mycology. Recently serology services have been owned by the Department as well. Department of Microbiology is actively involved in and coordinating the antibiotic policies of the hospital. A huge challenge of nosocomial infection control is led by the department and elementary steps & ideas have been introduced in this regard.

Department is vanguard in applying new methods of teaching undergraduate students. The interactive sessions for teaching with students have proved to be better & fruitful. Although displaying of diagrams & animations has good impact on students, however , slide teaching seems to be more of an advantage to the teacher because students seem to lose their concentration & focus.

Though the department has developed a lot but we are still lacking in advanced and high end diagnostic facilities like molecular microbiology, Bact-alert, fluorescent microscopy & tissue culture in virology.

Invasive procedures & surgeries are being done since the inception of this institute. Department of clinical microbiology is first time screening nosocomially acquired viral hepatitis infection among health care workers.

Two senior faculty members have also been conferred MD guide ship in Microbiology.

The department is contemplating to give more sensitive laboratory backup by high tech Electro-Chemiluminisence. which will be available in the department soon.

  General activities:

The Department of Anatomy is involved in imparting Under Graduate training to the batch of 100 students. The department is  teaching various aspects of Anatomy, like Regional Anatomy , Histology, Embryology as well as Clinical & Medical aspects of Applied Anatomy.  Besides the students are demonstrated Histology slides as well as dissected specimen. In addition to using Power Point Presentations, Embryology Models and Museum specimens as teaching aids, the department has over all 600 to 700 working hours during one calendar year. The department has Two Faculty members, Four  Tutor/Demonstrators and Six Paramedics. In line with latest Methods of Teaching and Assessing students the Department conducts Oral Viva, Theory and Practical  Examinations, MCQ Tests at constant intervals. Besides the department is also encouraging students to prepare seminars on important topics and present them on rotation basis. More focus on Clinically Oriented Anatomy and Applied Anatomy is given so that the Applied Aspects of Surgery, Orthopedics, ENT, Medicine, Obstretics Gynecology and Radiology are well understood by Students.

 The Department is desirous of:

 Getting cadavers, Plastinated Specimen.

Three Dimensional Virtual Demonstration Apparatus

L C D Projectors/Lab Tutors

Slide projectors

Proper heating arrangements in Dissection hall & Histology laboratory
